Australian Poker Championship

Aussie Millions - Crown Casino Australian Poker Championship

The annual Australian Poker Championship takes place in January at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.  It is often commonly referred to as the Aussie Millions poker tournament.  The poker tournament was first held in 1998 and was initially known as simply the Australian Poker Championship.  The tournament has grown substantially since that first year and now draws top poker players from around the world.  In fact, the majority of the poker tournament players are from outside Australia.

The "Aussie Millions" Crown Casino Australian Poker Championship is comprised of over 15 individual poker tournaments including Texas Holdem, Omaha poker, Manila poker, and Razz with buy-ins generally ranging from AUD $220 to about $10,500.  The Aussie Millions Australian Poker Championship started introducing a high stakes poker tournament in 2007 with a $100,500 buy-in no limit Texas Holdem poker tournament that has become a staple of the Aussie Millions Australian Poker Championship tournaments.

Aside from the main event $10,000 Texas Holdem Championship poker tournament, there are other poker tournaments of note at the Australian Poker Championship including a three day Australian Heads Up Poker Championship tournament, a Turbo No Limit Texas Holdem Poker Tournament with 30 seconds for players to act, a $100,000 high stake poker no limit Texas Holdem Poker Challenge, and several two day H.O.R.S.E. poker tournaments (Texas Holdem, Omaha Hi Lo, Razz Poker, 7 Card Stud Poker & 7 Card Stud Hi Lo).

There is also an Australian 2 Card Manila Poker Championship Tournament which is played with a modified deck (7’s up) and a limit betting structure.  Each player is dealt two hole cards and one community card in the initial deal.  Similar to Texas Holdem, there are 5 community cards, however players must use both of their hole cards to make the best 5 card poker hand.

The 2004 Crown Casino Australian Poker Championship saw 133 participants at the $10,000 buy-in main event generating a prize pool of AUD $1,330,000.  In 2005, the Aussie Millions continued to grow with 263 participants paying AUD $10,000 each to enter the Main Event, generating a prize pool of AUD $2,630,000.  The 2006, Australian Poker Championship witnessed 418 players competing for a AUD $4,180,000 prize pool.

The 2007 Crown Casino Australian Poker Championship main even poker tournament recorded a record 747 players generating a prize pool of AUD $7,470,000.  In 2008 the Australian Poker Championship main tournament had 780 players and a prize pool of AUD $7,800,000.

Satellite Tournaments

Aussie Millions Australian Poker Championship satellite tournaments are hosted by the Crown Casino poker room in Australia beginning the week before the Australian Poker Championship and continue daily up to the date of the main event Aussie Millions Championship poker tournament in accordance with the demand for satellites at the poker room.

Online Aussie Millions satellite tournaments are available year round at some online poker rooms.  It is best to play at one of the larger online poker rooms which offer satellite tournaments more frequently given their large player base.

Your best option is Party Poker, the largest online poker room.  Party Poker has more Aussie Millions satellite tournaments than any other poker room.  If you play at Party Poker, be sure to enter the bonus code BONUSPOKER to get a 100% bonus on your initial deposit with the poker room.

Below is a typical schedule for the Aussie Millions Crown Casino Australian Poker Championship.  Check with the Crown Casino poker room prior to each tournament to confirm exact dates and poker games or see their Aussie Millions site at www.aussiemillions.com.
